Welcome to Geoff Grice's DCU web page
Hi, I'm Geoff!
I am currently studying on the MISM programme with Dublin City University (Oscail). Yes, I am officially a Geoffrey, although I prefer Geoff, it's more to the point. I created this page so that people can learn a little bit about me and also how to reach me. I hope it will also serve as a useful reference point for my studies.
About Geoff
I'm Australian by nationality, however I have lived in Dublin, Ireland for 7 years. I have Irish kids, an Irish wife, an Irish house and an Irish company. So I hope this goes some way to making me at least part-Irish :)I have been an I.T. guy ever since I can remember and I've had exposure to many industries and my career has led me through many countries. I really like to meet new people and experience foreign cultures.
In later life, I aspire to be known as Dr. Geoff, and retire to Australia.... that could take another 20 years, so until then more work and more study!:

My Personal Projects
What? huh? you're still here? ok so I will tell you about some things that I'm working on outside of study and work:
http://www.santasrules.com - I am a working parent living in a Dublin suburb and like many, this involves a long commute and long working day. I have three great but 'spirited' kids and the last thing I want when I get home from work is for the house to be upside down and to resort to shouting or heated tempers. I figured there has to be something that I can use to make life easier! I work in I.T. so I decided to set up a Christmas themed website to help me regain control of my house.
The site is called Santa's Rules and is designed to give kids an incentive to behave well, by letting them list what they want for Christmas and letting their parents put on their day to day rules. This seems to be a good incentive system for young kids and I have also integrated a 'star power' system that the parent can add or remove stars according to the childs behaviour or behavior (depending on where you come from) day to day. My own kids seem to really like the site as they tell their friends they have their own Santy page and I enjoy sitting with them, updating it and posting off to their grandparents/cousins etc the updates.
The site has been professionally designed and I hope it is attractive to the eye and respectful of the Christmas message and Santa character.
http://www.contracting.ie - Currently this site is just a holding page. However I am conducting a personal experiment in business process streamlining. History has shown that I am very good at coming up with solutions to problems that don't exist, maybe this is one of them, time will tell. I think the idea of a direct marketplace for office based consulting contracts (i.e. project management, legal projects, finance projects etc) could be quite usefull. Especially for small business where you need to get maximum perfomance for money spent. Contracting.ie will be an Irish wide (north and south) portal where businesses of all sizes can buy and sell business services (contracts), just as they do today - except by cutting out the middle man. I don't think this idea will be popular with recruitment companies, however I'm hoping to find a way to roll them in to the equation and make it a winner for everyone. I am hoping to launch Contracting.ie in 2008 and as a stimulus to get people to pre-register for the site, I am running a competition on the holding page. All you need to do is (be over 18yo) and register for the site for a chance to win a fantastic Sony Vaio laptop, Samsung 40" Widescreen HD LCD or Nokia N95 5mp camera phone. Every time you invite someone to the site and they register, this gives you another ticket in the prize draw.
There are other projects coming, so thanks for visiting and stay tuned!
